Haddington House Nursery
At Haddington House Nursery, the guiding principle that underlies our entire practice is that we aim to offer a quality experience for all the children in our care.
To do this we provide:
• Quality care with a focus on well-being.
• A quality environment through continuous and well resourced provision that gives numerous opportunities to learn through play.
• Quality experiences provided through focused stimuli and structured activities.
• Quality interaction between adults and children. Staff both direct focused activities and support children's spontaneous play.
OUR AIMS
• To provide a warm, caring, safe and stimulating environment.
• To create a learning environment this offers excellent quality care and education through a broad and balanced curriculum.
• To treat everyone with equal respect irrespective of gender, race, religion or disability.
• To provide a wide range play experiences which enable them to develop the skills required for them to flourish at home and later at school.
• To encourage independence by allowing the children to self select their own toys and activities for substantial parts of the day.
HOW WE WORK
It is our priority to make each child and their family feel welcome and valued from the first day onwards. In order to do this, we have a settling in period procedure.
On your initial visit you will meet your child's key worker. This is the person whom you will have the most contact with. This person will take a special interest in your child and has certain duties which include:
• Settling your child into Nursery.
• Being your main point of contact for all matters concerning your child's well-being, development, health and behaviour.
• Keeping your child's records up to date.
• Observing your child's development and learning, sharing their successes with you and planning how to help your child reach their full potential.
• Working in partnership with you to find solutions to any problems that might
occur.
We provide daily record sheets which will keep you informed of your child's toileting, food intake, sleep and activities throughout their day at Nursery.
To enable us to provide quality care for our children, we work to at least the following staffing ratios:
• 1:3 children under 2 years
• 1:5 children aged 2-3 years
• 1:8 children aged 3-5 years
MEALS
All meals will be cooked on the premises and according to the sessions that children attend, meals will be provided that promote the 5 a day initiative. Children will be encouraged to eat a varied, balanced diet that is low in fat, salt and added sugars. Children will also be provided with regular drinks and snacks during their day at Nursery.
Menus will be displayed on the notice boards in the play areas.

ACCIDENTS
If a child is injured, a trained member of staff will give the appropriate first aid and parents will be advised of this. All accidents are recorded on an accident form and parents will be asked to sign this. If your child receives an injury whilst at home, we would appreciate it if you would inform a member of staff as we are required to complete an existing injury form confirming that the injury did not take place at the Nursery.
MEDICATION
If your child requires to be given medication at the Nursery, it can only be medicine which has been prescribed by a G.P. If this is the case, you must sign a medication form that authorises a member of staff to administer the prescribed dosage for the correct child (the child's name must be on the label) at the correct time before medication can be given.
HEALTH
Please do not bring your child into Nursery if he/she is unwell. Children will not be permitted to return to Nursery 48 hours following recovery, especially if sickness or diarrhoea has occurred. They need to be recovered in full and must not be infectious. If your child is unwell and unable to participate in daily activities, we will contact you ask that you collect them immediately.
